Babies are brand-new for a fleeting moment and are particularly special to photograph.
Below are some answers to questions so you can prepare for Baby's very first photo session.

What is your approach to newborn photography?

I believe in capturing authentic, natural images of newborns, in their element and surrounded by their family. Babies are perfection all on their own, and my goal is to beautifully capture their earliest days on Earth, for your family's keepsaking. To accomplish this, I offer a lifestyle approach to newborn photography that takes place in your home and includes both images of Baby with immediate family, and individual images of Baby on her own.

When should I schedule my newborn's photo session and how old should Baby be?

Babies change so quickly -- if your goal is to capture them brand new, I recommend a session within their first days at home. You can reserve a newborn session during pregnancy and we will pencil in a session based on your due date to hold some time. When Baby arrives, we can confirm or adjust the date as necessary.

Where will the session take place?

Sessions take place in your home, wherever we can get the most natural light. For variety, it's nice to shoot in at least two rooms if possible - often this includes a family space/living room, and either Baby's nursery or Mom and Dad's room.

What will happen during the session?

We'll take a quick tour of your home so we can together best determine the spots we want to shoot. From there, we will move around the house, letting you and yours simply enjoy your time together, and I'll step in and arrange/make small requests when necessary, capturing your family comfortably in your home. The goal is to obtain several shot of Baby on her own, but many of family interacting with the newest addition as well. I do bring a small number of wraps/hats/headbands/small backdrops for use if you like, for Baby's individual shots.

We will stop as needed for feedings, changes, and cuddling breaks. Because of this, I ask that clients plan a block of two hours, although we may not need the entire block of time. These sessions are calm, low-stress, and ultimately take as long as they need to...we are on Baby's schedule!

What happens after the session?

I aim to get a "sneak peek" on Facebook and Instagram within 48 hours of a session. You are more than welcome to tag yourself in these and share with family and friends! Within two weeks of our session, you will receive a link to an online gallery. A collection of 20 unique images from your session will be in the gallery, retouched, with black and white versions as is fitting. You can download your final images directly to your computer (as many times and to ask many machines as you please).

How and when do we pay?

Payment is due at the time of the session (if you are participating in the Baby Plan, 1/4 of the total package is due at each session). You may pay via cash, check, or I can swipe your credit card on-site. While the session may be rescheduled for a number of reasons, the session fee itself is non-refundable. Do you offer milestone packages?

The Baby Plan is a series of four photography sessions that take place over the span of about a year: one session during maternity (third trimester), another when Baby is a newborn, a third around six months old, and a final session at Baby's first birthday. All sessions include one hour of photography time (two hours for newborn session) and a disc of approximately 20 retouched images from each session.

Purchasing The Baby Plan provides a discount over booking these same four sessions individually over the course of a year. Gift certificates toward the package are available by contacting me directly. You can read more about The Baby Plan here
